The Boko Haram conflict in the northern part of Nigeria has put more than a million Nigerians beyond the reach of humanitarian workers, an aid group, Doctors Without Borders, said. These Nigerians live in 22 enclaves in Borno state, according to recent U.N. figures. Nigeria halted the operations of two humanitarian agencies – Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger – in 2019. Luis Eguiluz, MSF boss in Nigeria, says the Nigerian army does not allow humanitarian agencies to go to these areas because this would be in violation of international counterterrorism laws. Seven-point-one million people in need are dependent on humanitarian assistance for survival,” he said.
